City of Minot Dispatcher Requirements

Entry-level communications work monitoring emergency services radios and alarms and dispatching police, fire and emergency medical crews as needed. Applicants should have experience in the use of communications equipment, computer terminals and the like, or any equivalent of training experience.

Starting salary for this position is $1959 per month.

Upon employment, he/she is required to become a member of the Police Pension Fund, which includes a $25 membership fee and contributes 13.2% of gross wages to the fund. Social Security is not deducted from the paycheck. Effective in 2004 any member will vest at 5 years with a 2.5% multiplier for the first 30 years and 1% per year for the next 10 years. The City of Minot has the Rule of 85 in effect for retirement.

This position involves shift work, including holidays and weekends. Job requirements includes ability to respond to emergency situations calmly and dispatch with sound judgment. Ability to perform work requiring good hearing, good dictation and a clear voice. A speech and hearing test will be administered during the testing phase. All applicants will be required to pass a 30 words per minute typing exam prior to taking the written civil service examination.

              To be eligible for employment, a perspective candidate must:

                    1.     pass a typing exam with a minimum of 30 wpm;

                    2.     pass a speech and hearing examination;

                    3.     pass a oral interview;

                    4.     pass a written examination and be declared eligible by the Civil Service Commission;

                    5.     may be required to take a polygraph test.
